Awards & Decorations Policy Awards and decorations are qualified for on the basis of either outstanding "valor" (if there can be such in a reenacting setting where there is normally no real danger), or on the basis of merit (number of battle days accumulated through unit participation). Members can choose whether or not to wear the awards and decorations they qualify for.
AWARDS AND DECORATIONS FOR VALOR AND/OR MERITEiserneskreuz 2. Klasse (Iron Cross 2nd Class) Valor - Distinguish oneself in a heroic manner which has a direct and major negative impact on the opposing force or positive impact on the German force. Merit - Sustained meritorious contribution to 11.Panzer through the accumulation of 48 Battle Days. Eiserneskreuz 1. Klasse (Iron Cross 1st Class) Valor - Distinguish oneself in a heroic manner which has a direct and major negative impact on the opposing force or positive impact on the German force at a level exceeding that of the Eisernerkreuz 2. Klasse (Iron Cross 2nd Class). Valor - Sustained valor through the accumulation of 3 Eisernerkreuz 2. Klasse (Iron Cross 2nd Class). Merit - Sustained meritorious contribution to 11.PANZER through the accumulation of 72 Battle Days. Kriegsorden der Deutscheskreuz in Gold (War Order of the German Cross in Gold) Valor - Sustained valor and/or merit through the accumulation of 2 Eiserneskreuz 1. Klasse (Iron Cross 1st Class). Ritterkreuz zum Eiserneskreuz (Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross) Valor - Save the life of another person at an NWHA or 11.PANZER scheduled or recognized event. Valor - Sustained valor and/or merit through the accumulation of 2 Deutscheskreuz in Gold (German Cross in Gold). AWARDS AND DECORATIONS FOR MERITKriegsverdienstkreuz 2. Klasse ohne Schwerten (War Merit Cross 2nd Class without Swords) Service - Specific act or acts of service to 11.PANZER at a level which exceeds the norm of contributions by other members. Typical examples include, but are not limited to, recruiting, sustained provision of loaner gear, making equipment and/or uniforms for other members, unit website development and maintenance. Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwerten (War Merit Cross 2nd Class with Swords) Service - Specific act or acts of combat-related service to 11.PANZER at a level which exceeds the norm of contributions by other members. Typical examples include, but are not limited to, sustained provision of combat-related loaner gear in the form of weapons, ammunition, and/or other armaments, sustained efforts in provision of ammunition, and making weapons and/or other armaments for other members. Kriegsverdienstkreuz 1. Klasse ohne Schwerten (War Merit Cross 1st Class without Swords) Service - Specific act or acts of service to 11.PANZER and/or NWHA at a level which exceeds the standard for the KVK 2.Kl. Includes the acquisition, maintenance, and regular provision of a functional appropriate vehicle. Includes sustained merit through the accumulation of 2 Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2. Klasse ohne Schwerten (War Merit Cross 2nd Class without Swords). Kriegsverdienstkreuz 1. Klasse mit Schwerten (War Merit Cross 1st Class with Swords) Service - Specific act or acts of combat-related service to 11.PANZER and/or NWHA at a level which which exceeds the standard for the KVK 2.Kl. Includes the acquisition, maintenance, and regular provision of a functional appropriate crew-served weapon. Includes service to NWHA in the form of event coordination, licensed and regulated pyrotechnic displays, and/or the provision of other services which affect the NWHA as a whole. Includes sustained merit through the accumulation of 2 Kriegsverdienstkreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwerten (War Merit Cross 2nd Class with Swords). Ritterkreuz zum Kriegsverdienstkreuz (Knight’s Cross of the War Merit Cross)Merit - Sustained meritorious contribution to 11.PANZER and/or NWHA through the accumulation of 3 Kriegsverdienstkreuz 1. Klasse mit Schwerten (War Merit Cross 1st Class with Swords)
MEMBERSHIP AWARDS HJ Mitgliedspange (HJ Membership Pin) Membership - Prior membership in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Indian Guides or any other approved organization. Member must be 30 years of age or younger. HJ Verdienstspange in Bronz (HJ Merit Pin in Bronze) U.S. Veteran - Prior active honorable service in the U.S. Armed Forces. Member must be 30 years of age or younger. HJ Verdienstspange in Silber (HJ Merit Pin in Silver) U.S. Combat Veteran - Prior active honorable service in the U.S. Armed Forces including combat time, defined as entitlement to receive Combat Pay or Hostile Fire Pay. Member must be 30 years of age or younger.
AWARD ENTITLEMENT PROCEDURES Valor-Related Awards and/or Decorations - After each event, any 11.PANZER unit member may be recommended for a valor-based award or decoration based upon combat-related valorous action or leadership. The recommendation will be made available to all 11.PANZER unit members for their opinions. A vote will be taken of those 11.PANZER unit members who were present at the event. A favorable vote of 50% of the polled members grants entitlement. After each event, any member of any other German unit may be recommended for a valor-based award or decoration based upon combat-related valorous action or leadership. The recommendation will be made available to the leadership of the unit to which the individual belongs. Merit-Related Awards - Any 11.PANZER unit member may be recommended for a merit-based award based upon significant non-combat-related contributions, accomplishments, achievements, and/or leadership. The recommendation will be made available to all 11.PANZER unit members for their opinions. A vote will be taken of those 11.PANZER unit members who were knowledgeable of the action. A favorable vote of 50% of the polled members grants entitlement. U.S. Equivalency Awards and/or Decorations - Any 11.PANZER unit member who has earned specific U.S. awards and/or decorations while serving honorably in any branch of the U.S. military service is entitled to wear the equivalent German awards and /or decorations. The member must provide, upon request of the 11.PANZER Unit Commander or 11.PANZER Unit Assistant Commander, acceptable documentation of his entitlement to the U.S. awards and/or decorations. Examples of acceptable documentation include, but are not limited to, copies of DD Form 214 Report of Separation From Active Duty, copies of award and/or decoration documents, copies of orders announcing the award and/or decoration, etc. It is not required that the member disclose the specific circumstances surrounding the action for which the award and/or decoration was earned. Any awards and/or decorations earned by a member while serving honorably with an allied foreign military service will be considered as appropriate using similar criteria. AWARD PRESENTATION An 11.PANZER Unit Awards Ceremony will be held at each event at which a member is present who has earned an award, decoration, promotion, or other form of recognition. Generally, the Ceremony will be conducted on Saturday evening of the event at a time and place specified at the event. It is intended that all 11.PANZER unit members assemble in uniform to honor their comrades who are receiving recognition. Whenever appropriate, the Awards Ceremony should be coordinated with any other German units present. The awards, decorations, promotions, and/or other forms of recognition will be presented by the 11.PANZER Unit Commander or his designee in a manner designed to honor the recipient.
