German Impression/Name

As part of our impression, we develop a "persona" or "first-person character".

This involves developing a history for the person we are portraying. It takes a bit of thought and time to do it right, and not everybody develops a complete character.

Generally, the first thing done is to select a name. Most guys pick a German name, but it can also be any other name that would reasonably have been held by a German troop of the time. Included would be names of foreign origin, such as French for example, if the guy came from the Alsace.

Some guys pick a name that is of historical significance within their own family (an ancestor that may have had a German name), some find an actual historical name of somebody who is not historically significant, and some guys simply make up a name.

We discourage the use of aristocratic names unless you actually have that background.
